When Alpharetta was a sleepy little town of 8,000 or so, its City Hall had room for all municipal offices. But record growth that pushed the population past 51,000 required the city to find more office space. That put Community Development in a shopping center a short drive south. For the past several years residents who need a building permit to renovate their homes, developers looking for help in meeting zoning requirements and small and large companies wanting to open up for business in the city have come to this corner office with its two entrances. Plenty of forms line one wall if you didn't find them online at the city's Web site.
