Mothers, Daughters Form National Charity League's Milton Chapter

More than 200 members got the brand new National Charity League Milton Chapter started with an inaugural meeting recently at the Metropolitan Club in Alpharetta.

The National Charity League is one of the nation’s most well-respected and oldest mother-daughter organizations, the new chapter said in a news release. Its mission is to foster mother-daughter relationships in a philanthropic organization committed to community service, leadership development and cultural experiences. The Milton chapter is one of more than 170 chapters with more than 50,000 members in 20 states. Annually, NCL members from coast to coast volunteer approximately one million hours in their local communities.

The National Charity League Milton Chapter was founded by 10 women who serve as the Board of Directors. These ladies were familiar with the National Charity League from the other surrounding chapters in the area, and recognized there was tremendous interest in Milton and the surrounding area to launch another chapter.

To charter a new chapter, the national office requires a minimum of 25 mothers and daughters to be interested. At Milton Chapter’s formation meeting in May, the interest far exceeded expectations, allowing the Milton Chapter to start with almost a completely full membership. This new chapter has 276 members in its first year, which includes mothers and daughters in grades 7-12. The typical class size is 20-30 girls, or Ticktockers as they are called in the National Charity League, per grade level.

“To start our chapter with so many members says a lot about the NCL organization and about the families that live in Milton and surrounding areas. It’s a great response to service that so many of us in this area are willing to give” said Lezlie Renee’ Pipes, president of the Milton Chapter.

“What an exciting day for NCL and for the communities we serve. We are moms and daughters working together to serve our community. Our daughters are our future and we want for them to think about the area they live in and how they can make a difference,” Pipes said.

“I am so looking forward to this year. It is going to be so much fun to go out and volunteer with both my mom and my friends.”

The Milton Chapter currently serves four philanthropies in North Fulton including:

• The Drake House
• Foster Care Support Foundation
• Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation
• HomeStretch

The Milton Chapter has already provided service to the Foster Care Support Foundation and has many of its philanthropy opportunities filled for the first half of the year. Its members are excited to start serving in the community and looks forward to adding new philanthropies throughout the year.

The NCL Milton Chapter draws its membership from the Milton schools and surrounding areas. The Chapter serves areas of central and North Fulton County, Georgia, as well as parts of northeast Cobb County and southern Forsyth County.
