Kids Can Win Cash for Being Kind to Animals

The Atlanta Humane Society has art and essay contests open to kids through high school.

Although Be Kind to Animal Week has passed, the Atlanta Humane Society is still accepting art and essay contest entries to promote humane treatment of animals with children.

The "Be Kind to Animals" art contest is in memory of Jonathan Edward Ratner, an avid animal lover and supporter of Atlanta Humane Society. It is open to children in kindergarten through 12th grade for a chance to win $100 cash as well as other prizes. Kids can submit an original drawing or painting to showcase what being kind to animals means to them. The deadline is March 31. Visit the “Featured Events” section at www.atlantahumane.org for more information.

The Mariel Hannah Humane Heroes Award accepts nominations of teenagers between the ages of 13 and 18 who performed an extraordinary act of kindness to benefit animals. The contest honors Hannah, an 18-year old animal lover tragically killed in a 2006 home invasion, through a fund established by friends and family that recognizes selfless acts by teenagers who share Mariel’s love for animals.
