Pets Needing Homes to Fill Wills Park Equestrian Center

An Animal Rescue Fair returns to Alpharetta for 5 hours on Sunday, June 10, looking to promote awareness of pet rescue and homeless pets, and to help them find homes.

You'll see a lot more dogs than horses if you visit the on Sunday afternoon, as the Animal Rescue Fair 2012 fills the area from noon to 5 p.m.

Save the Horses and the Canine Adoption Network are hosting the event, which intends to bring awareness of pet rescue and help homeless dogs, cats and other pets find permanent homes, as well as educate the public on pet care and resources available to all.

A Walk of Fame at 2:30 p.m. will celebrate the previous adoptions that have found their “Forever Homes”. Register online to participate in the walk.

As well as promoting pet adoptions, education and family fun day, an additional goal this year is to make the public aware of the many resources available to help families keep their pets during these trying economic times.

Admission is free, but this year sponsors are asking for a donation of a bag of pet food (dog, cat, horse) which will be donated to pet soup kitchens in Georgia to help them continue with their mission. Each donation will receive a raffle ticket. "Events like this enable us to continue to make a difference and save thousands of pets," organizers say.

Pet rescue organizations like Rally To Rescue and Canine Adoption Network help place nearly half a million dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, potbellied pigs and other pets in homes each year, and represent nearly 45 percent of all pet adoption agencies.  However they are often overlooked by potential donors due to more limited fundraising and marketing capabilities.
