Alpharettans to Play Cards for Alzheimer's Research

The Alpharetta Duplicate Bridge Club will be part of a national day to raise funds and awareness.

The Alpharetta Duplicate Bridge Club will participate in The Longest Day, a partnership with the Alzheimer's Association to raise awareness and funds for the care, support and research work of the Alzheimer's Association.

“The Longest Day will fly by as bridge clubs across North America competitively and joyously ‘play to win’ in honor of those facing Alzheimer’s,” said Robert Hartman, CEO of the American Contract Bridge League. “Our members have big, generous hearts, and I can tell you that I believe they play even harder when it’s for a cause that has affected so many of their friends and family.”

Participants will complete approximately 16 hours of activity – such as playing bridge – and unite as one global team to put change into motion and stand up to end Alzheimer’s.

“What prompted our interest in participating is the fact that we can all do something we love while helping out an organization like the Alzheimer’s Association. ACBL did a great job promoting and advertising all of the information about this event,” said Nancy Watkins, a director of the Alpharetta Duplicate Bridge Club.

“This is not common for our group, which makes it equally important that we have all come together as a unit to support this cause,” Watkins said.

Social and competitive bridge players alike are encouraged to join the cause and play to support the Alzheimer’s Association on The Longest Day.

Registration opened March 18 at local bridge clubs across North America and it’s not too late to sign up. Visit The Longest Day website online for more information and a club near you.
