Video Captures Runaway Horse and Carriage Ride

Spooked horse races through the streets of Savannah, Ga. towing carriage full of people behind.

By Todd Richissin

Savannah is the Georgia city that's supposed to be somewhat quiet, impossibly quaint and beautifully quirky. And few activities are more Savannah than a horse-and-buggy ride through the city.

What was supposed to be a passive sight-seeing activity this week, though, became an adventure that nobody involved is likely to forget.

WSAV has obtained a copy of the surveillance video from downtown Savannah that shows a spooked horse bolting through the streets, plowing into parked cars and scaring pedestrians, not to mention the people in the buggy itself. The voice in the background is a call to emergency dispatchers.

The horse apparently got spooked by something and started running, and its driver and five passengers had no choice but to go along for a wild ride.

The five passengers, including three children, did have to jump from the carriage but they suffered only scrapes and bruises.

The horse was calmed and escaped unhurt.
