Traffic Alert: Between Rain and Road Closures, Downtown Alpharetta Will be a Mess

The city's Christmas Tree Lighting celebration will cause the road closures, some of which will last all day long and into the night.

Traffic already was likely to be a bit rough for the morning commute with showers and thunderstorms in the weather forecast. But Alpharetta's Christmas Tree Lighting Celebration will wreak havoc with trafic starting at 6 a.m. Friday.

The city sent out a traffic alert today, Dec. 5 warning of heavy traffic delays in downtown Alpharetta on Dec. 6. The alert goes so far as to advise motorists to avoid any travel through dowtown Alpharetta on Friday.

" Several roadways in that area will be closed due to a special event.  The road closures will be in place throughout the day, including during the morning and evening commute hours," Assistant City Administrator James Drinkard said in the traffic alert.
