I Took The Gravel Road. And That Has Made All The Difference.

While driving home today, I ran into some traffic and decided to take a back way. I knew that this unpaved road would end up being a longer route, but, I was just honestly sick of the stop and go. My brakes needed a break, if you know what I mean.

As I turned onto that gravel road, a smile came to my face. I quickly turned off the lasted Katy Perry hit and, despite the cold, crisp air, rolled down my window. The sound of gravel crunching under my tires was music to my ears. I took a deep breath in.

Then, I began to reminisce.

Let me give you a bit of background information on myself real quick. I moved to the area as a child from the desert city of Tucson, Arizona. I went from cacti to kudzu, as I like to say. It was quite the change.  But, this new place was one right out of a story book. Beautiful green, flowing pastures full of horses and goats and sheep….oh my! Little bbq joints on the corners, tack and feed stores galore…little, old houses with little, old men on the porch waving at any and every car that drove by. I instantly loved it here. I loved the simplicity and natural beauty that the area possessed. The area that today, we call “Milton".

The gravel roads. The horses grazing. The old, barns, no longer used, but still standing in all their glory. This is what defines Milton as we know it today. This is what makes Milton unique to all of the other metro Atlanta cities. As stated as the Vision Statement in the Milton City Community Plan 2008-2028, “Milton is a distinctive community embracing small-town life and heritage while preserving and enhancing our rural character.”

Rural character.

That is what makes Milton unique.

I, as much as the next person…and, especially as a Realtor… love to see beautiful, big homes being built in my community. Not only are they appealing to the eye, but, they also bring up the surrounding property value. Let’s just not take it too far.

Let’s preserve the ruralness that has defined this city from the beginning. Please vote to reserve it. (Click Here to Vote to Preserve Rural Milton)

And please, while you’re out there driving around Milton…try to take a gravel road from time to time. It will make all the difference.
