Rain, Rain and More Rain in Today's Forecast

Alpharetta and Milton residents can "look forward" to a 100 percent chance of heavy rain today, according to the National Weather Service.

Heavy rain and occasional lightning can be expected today, with thunderstorms possible at anytime today and tonight, according to the National Weather Service hazardous weather outlook. So bring the umbrella, rain poncho, raincoat, waterproof boots or shoes with you today–and maybe a change of socks!

The best chance for thunderstorms wil be this afternoon and evening, so the evening commute could be especially treacherous.

Winds could gust as high as 15 mph, the National Weather Service forecast says. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch are possible.

Today's high will be 79 degrees, but we'll get back into the 80s on Tuesday, with a high of 86.

North and central Georgia will remain under the influence of an upper level trough for much of the week, the hazardous weather outlook says. And a cold front expected to move across the state on Tuesday and Wednesday will enhance the threat for showers and thunderstorms. With the chance of rain at 100 percent today, I don't know about you, but saying "enhanced threat" worries me, though the chance for rain drops to 70 percent.

Just hold out until Wednesday, and change outdoor plans for the second half of the week. Wednesday is forecast to be mostly sunny, and the next chance for showers won't be until Friday–and the forecast calls for only a 20 percent chance of rain.
