Fourth of July Fireworks Still to Explode Over Wills Park

Crabapple's Fourth of July parade has been cancelled by organizers.

You'll need a chair or something waterproof to sit on, but you can still watch fireworks in Alpharetta on the Fourth of July. The city is going ahead with the fireworks display despite the rainy forecast.

“Our team reviewed the latest forecasts this morning, and the heaviest rains are anticipated to have moved out of the Alpharetta area by Thursday afternoon,” said Alpharetta Recreation and Parks Director Mike Perry in a news release today.  “With no threats from lightning or other severe weather on tap for Thursday night, we will not let the rain and soggy conditions put a damper on Alpharetta’s Independence Day Celebration.”

Over in Milton, the Crabapple Community Association cancelled the Crabapple Fourth of July Walking Parade, which had been scheduled for a 10 a.m. start.

The National Weather Service does forecast a drop in the chance of rain on Thursday night – down to 95 percent from 100 percent. But also says starting at 9 p.m. classifies it as a chance of rain, rather than rain being likely.

Perry said that planned park activities, including performances by the Alpharetta City Band and Serious Business, will be cancelled.  Additionally, food vendors that had been invited to the event can choose to back out.

“To be honest, the cloud cover will make a fantastic backdrop for this year’s fireworks,” Perry said. “We hope that folks will come on out and help us celebrate the birth of our nation and the unstoppable American Spirit.”
