Avalon Looks for a Running Team

The developer will back a group of up to 10 runners in Alpharetta's A Midsummer Night's Mayor's Run and Fun on July 20.

Want some backing for your own running team in Alpharetta's A Midsummer Night's Mayor's Run and Fun on July 20? Avalon today, July 6, is launching a Facebook contest to pick a race team to represent the development in the 5K run.

Being the winning entry will save each runner some money. Each member of Team Avalon will receive complimentary race entry ($30), a Team Avalon T-shirt and a $25 gift card to Whole Foods Market, the development announced in a news release.

Whole Foods Market will serve as an anchor tenant in Avalon, the $600 million experiential retail development slated to open in April 2014.

Groups of up to 10 are invited to register on Avalon’s Facebook page to compete in the contest to pick the official running team. The group that earns the most votes on Facebook will be chosen to represent Avalon in the race.

“We love how excited the Alpharetta community is about Avalon,” said Mark Toro, managing partner at North American Properties, Avalon’s developer. “Since the people of North Fulton continue to be such strong supporters of Avalon, who better to represent us in the mayor’s race?”

Avalon is a platinum sponsor of A Midsummer Night’s Mayor’s Run and Fun, which includes a 5K race, one-mile fun run, after party and movie. At the race Avalon will host Camp Avalon, an interactive booth for children.

The and the Rotary Club of Alpharetta are hosting the race, which is a Peachtree Road Race qualifier. The event will raise funds for a number of local charities including North Fulton Community Charities, Habitat for Humanity and literacy and library book programs.

The contest to choose Team Avalon is open through July 13, with the winner being announced the final day.
