Second Graders Battle in Pink to Raise Awareness

The Alpharetta and Roswell teams both wore pink socks to support the search for a breast cancer cure.

When two second grade football teams did battle on the gridiron on Oct. 8, they did it in style, with both teams wearing pink socks.

On Saturday, the second grade Alpharetta Youth Football Association (AYFA) Black Eagles hosted the 2nd grade Roswell Youth Black Hornets at Alpharetta's .

The game was a well-played one, according to Michelle Campbell, a mother and wife of the Alpharetta teams' coach. The Black Eagles won 24-6.

"But even more importantly, the boys from both teams wore pink socks to create awareness around breast cancer and support the search for the cure," Campbell said in an email to Patch. "The teams independently planned to do this, and it was very inspirational to show up to this game and see them all show such unity and hope."

The AYFA 2nd grade Black Eagles plan to wear their pink throughout the month of October to keep breast cancer awareness high on everyone's minds.
