Milton Loses Close Game to Harrison, 15-12

Extra point conversions make the difference as the Eagles fall to 1-2.

The Milton Eagles fell to Harrison High 15-12 on Friday night, Sept. 9, the victim of their own failed extra-point conversions.

Both teams now hold 1-2 records.

Neither team scored in the first quarter, but Milton took the lead with a 35-yard rushing touchdown by Treyvon Paulk to make it 6-0 with 9:32 left before the half. A two-point conversion attempt failed.

That lead held for the rest of the quarter and until 6:55 in the fourth, when Milton came back with a 6-yard touchdown reception by Jonathan Gill on a pass from Colin McElroy. But the quarterback's pass for two failed, and the Eagles' lead was only five points, 12-7. It wasn't going to last, either.

On the ensuing kickoff, the Hoyas' Chatham Carter ran 87 yards to put Harrison in the lead for good. It became a three-point lead when Subby Adetujoye caught a pass from Hoyas quarterback Clay Chastain.

The Eagles now could only tie with a field goal, and needed a touchdown to win. They managed neither.

The Eagles had 277 total yards on the night, with the Hoyas not far behind with 257 yards.

Eagles quarterback McElroy was 13 of 25 for 149 yards and one TD. His longest pass went for 31 yards.

The Hoyas Chastain completed 10 of 18 passes for 160 yards. He was sacked once.

Leading receivers for the Eagles were Malik Mitchell with four catches for 39 yards; Jonathan Mitchell with three receptions for 42 yards and one TD; and Chris Purpura with two receptions for 38 yards.

The Hoyas' Adetujoye had four receptions for 72 yards. His teammate, Kyle Holmes, had three catches for 47 yards.

Justin Brooks gained 67 yards on 10 rushes for Harrison.

The Eagles visit the Lassiter Trojans on Friday, Sept. 16.

The Harrison Hoyas host Pebblebrook High on Sept. 16.
