Milton High's Kelly Sets Record, Places Second at State Meet

The senior set a school record in the 1600 and placed second in two races.

Milton High School senior Annie Kelly shattered her personal record and a school record in the 1600 meter race in the Georgia High School Association State Meet by breaking the 5-minute barrier, going 4:59.10 for one of two runner-up finishes.

Coach Andy Carr said Kelly concluded her illustrious career at Milton with a pair of runner-up finishes at the GHSA State Meet held in Albany on May 9-10. The 1600 saw Kelly contend for the win and lead numerous times during the race.

Twenty-four hours later, Kelly was back to race the 3200 she again contended for the win through the race and recorded another runner-up finish with her 10:49.54, her second-fastest effort ever at Milton.

Kellyโ€™s double second place finishes scored 16 team points for Milton propelling the Lady Eagles to a 16th place team finish. That is the most points and highest team placing at the state meet for the girls team since the new Milton opened in 2005.

Fellow Milton athletes Kia Carson (100 meters) finished 13th and Devon Artis (400 meters) finished 9th place, accompanying Kelly to Albany to compete for Milton.
