King's Ridge Christian Defeats Mount Pisgah 11-6

The Tigers used solid pitching and timely hitting to defeat Mount Pisgah Christian 11-6

King's Ridge pitcher Jeff Sneed pitched three innings of no hit baseball and Devon Schmitt went 3 for 5 from the plate, driving in 2 RBIs and a stolen base to lead the Tigers to an 11-6 win over Mount Pisgah Christian Tuesday night.

For the Patriots, not much went right in the ball game as starting pitcher Danny Schneider walked two batters in the first inning and hit another batter, which led to the Tigers scoring 3 runs. It was the beginning of a long day for Mount Pisgah Christian and its head coach, John O'Connor.

"It was a really rough game. We didn't play well. We didn't have the energy we should have. We didn't do a lot of things right. We didn't pitch well. We obviously didn't hit well.  We didn't field well and we didn't run the bases well", O'Connor said.

King's Ridge pitcher Jeff Sneed had a no hitter going for three innings, striking out three and walking two. The Tigers led 6-0 in the bottom of the fourth before Mount Pisgah Christian first baseman Hank Shaw broke up the no hitter and Danny Schneider doubled to drive him in for the Patriots' first run of the game.

Sneed went a total of 5 innings on his way to get the win.

The Tigers got another run in the top of the fifth and Mount Pisgah answered in their half of the inning when Jeremy Morris doubled, driving in Zac Thayer, who had reached on a fielder's choice.  The Tigers led 7-3 at that point. However, that was a close as the Patriots would get.

King's Ridge Christian scored one run in the sixth and three in the seventh.

Mount Pisgah Christian was able to score 3 runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not enough as the Tigers won the ball game, 11-6.

"We are very thrilled to have the win. We knew Mount Pisgah was a great team. We battled them in our first game 4-3 in 8 innings," King's Ridge head coach Jason Couch said. "We challenged our kids that if we want to make the playoffs, we have to beat teams like Mount Pisgah. We knew we had to bring our best game, and I felt our guys did great", Couch said.

Coach Couch also praised the efforts of Jeff Sneed and J.J. Jarrard, as well as his team's play in the field and at the plate.

"Jeff Sneed gave us five strong innings starting pitching. Then J.J. Jarrard came in with relief pitching. We didn't have any errors. I thought our defense played great and we hit the ball consistently. One thing that we knew coming into the game is that their pitcher (Danny Schneider) threw really hard, so we told our guys not to do too much, just to hit it where it was," Couch said.

With the win, King's Ridge Christian is now 8-4 over all and 6-2 in Region 5 A play.  Mount Pisgah Christian drops to 11-6 over all and 5-4 in Region 5 A play.  The Patriots will try to bounce back when they travel to St. Francis on Thursday.  First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.  King's Ridge Christian will host Fellowship Christian on Thursday at 5 p.m.
