King's Ridge Holds Off Mt. Pisgah to Win in Overtime, 20-14

A key interception in the end zone late in regulation preserved a tie for the Tigers, who were celebrating homecoming in a regional battle against the Patriots. That allowed the home team to take a 20-14 win in overtime.

The Tigers scored first in a game marred by penalties. At least one touchdown and several long runs off sweeps or pass receptions were called back because of penalties.

Mt. Pisgah Head Coach Doug Dixon said many of his players made great plays, but the defense kept the team in the game.

King's Ridge Head Coach Jeff Pickren said it was a game with many key plays, but perhaps the most important was the interception Jason Mccoy made in the end zone as Mt. Pisgah was threatening to score, forcing the game into overtime.

Mt. Pisgah had the first chance in overtime. But the King's Ridge defense held again.

One the Tigers had the ball in overtime, they were ready to take the game in hand. A big run by Julian Champ in overtime helped set up the quarterback keeper by Bailey Miller for the win.

Miller completed 12 of 20 passes for 225 yards and one touchdown to go along with his game-winning touchdown run. 

Senior wide receiver Devon Schmitt had seven catches for 137 yards. Freshman running back Penny Hart had a 40-yard touchdown catch.

Julian Champ had 32 yards rushing on 4 carries for the Tigers. He also had a catch for 26 yards and one touchdown.

King's Ridge scored both its touchdowns in regulation in the first quarter. Mt. Pisgah cut the lead in half in the second quarter, and gained the tie in the third quarter. The fourth quarter remained scoreless, ending regulation 14-14.

King's Ridge Christian faces Holy Innocents next week, which remains undefeated in the subregion. Mt. Pisgah hosts Wesleyan next week at home.
