King's Ridge Hangs On, Beats Pinecrest

Tigers improved their record to 4-3 overall, 2-2 in Region 5-A North.

Bailey Miller passed for three touchdown and Julian Champ had a key interception late in the game as edged Pinecrest Academy 21-18 Friday night.

Miller, a sophomore quarterback, completed 14 of 20 passes for 168 yards for King's Ridge, which improved to 4-3 overall, 2-2 in Region 5-A North. The Tigers led 21-10 in the fourth quarter before Pinecrest (2-6, 0-5) pulled to within 21-18, then threatened to win it late.

But Champ, who had a 16-yard touchdown reception, intercepted a Paladin pass at the 5-yard line with less that two minutes remaining in the game to seal the win.

"It was an exciting game," King's Ridge Coach Jeff Pickren said. "Our kids made plays when they had to. When things weren't always going our way, there would be somene to step up and make a difference."

Senior receiver Devon Schmitt had eight receptions for 129 yards and two touchdowns for the Tigers, who host Mount Pisgah next Friday for their homecoming game.
