Is it Really Time for Winter Youth Basketball?

Registration begins on Tuesday, Aug. 16 for Alpharetta's Youth Basketball program.

Alpharetta Boys and girls age 6 to 15 years can begin registration for  the Recreation and Parks Department’s Youth Basketball program on Tuesday, Aug. 16.

Non-residents have to wait until Aug. 29 to register. Some age divisions will fill up quickly so the Rec and Parks Department advised kids not to wait to register.

The cost is $100 for residents and $175 for non-residents.

Boys' age groups are:

6 year old (co-ed),

7-8 year olds,

9 year olds (only),

10 year olds (only),

11 year olds (only),

12-13 year olds,

4-15 year olds.

Girls age groups are:

6 year old (co-ed),

7-8 year olds,

9-10 year olds,

11-12 year olds,

13-15 year olds.

Some divisions with fewer teams will likely play an interleague schedule with area leagues and will require some local travel.

Volunteer coaching opportunities may be available to qualified adults.  All potential coaching candidates must successfully complete the city’s criminal background check.  Candidates are screened to ensure adequate knowledge in the sport in which they are applying to coach.  Training opportunities are also available.

Player evaluations will be the weekend of Oct. 1-2. Practices begin the week of Oct. 31.  The season begins Dec. 3 and games will be played at the , Wills Park Recreation Center and .
