Hopewell Youth Association Kicks Off Baseball Season

Saturday event includes raffles, fund raisers and opening day pitch, just like the big leagues.

This Saturday at Bell Memorial Park the Hopewell Youth Association (HYA) will hold Hopewell Day, kicking off the non-profit group's in-park baseball tournament and celebrating 25 years of providing local children with recreational programs.

The day will start at 8:30 a.m. with an Opening Pitch Ceremony featuring former Atlanta Braves ace Mark Wholers, who now coaches a youth team at the park, according to a release by Milton's Jason Wright. Wohlers will be joined by Trey Farran, a Johns Creek Police officer, and Tim Cagle, a local CPA with his own Milton-based firm, who both grew up playing baseball at Bell Memorial for HYA and now coach there, as well.

The tournament will then kick off like a big league game, with the National Anthem by young singer Christina Wood.

"Hopewell Day is probably the most exciting day of the year for our organization," said HYA Board President Mark Fein. "The kids are so excited to start tournament play and then you add the games, rides, prizes and a dunk tank that's continually holding one of our coaches–it just doesn't get any better."
