Each week through the hjgh school season, Patch will share our predictions on local football games — and ask for yours. Think you’ve got what it takes to pick a winner?

Let’s get it on.

Milton at Cherokee: Howie DeCristofaro’s debut has been a glorious one at Milton — a 29-27 win over defending AAAA state champ Chattahoochee in a preseason scrimmage. Yes, we know that preseason doesn’t count, but try convincing Eagles fans that it doesn’t mean anything. It was a big step for a program that has struggled, including a 3-7 record last year. Cherokee better be ready. Milton 35, Cherokee 20.

Alpharetta at North Cobb: This is perhaps the most intriguing matchup of the week involving our teams. Both teams are playoff contenders — Alpharetta went 6-5 last year and made the playoffs; North Cobb sputtered after a 5-1 start (including a 42-19 loss at Alpharetta) and finished 5-5 and just missed the postseason. Both are looking to take the next step. Both have holes to fill left by graduation, but also have solid experience back. This is a coin flip … (flip) … Alpharetta 24, North Cobb 23.

King’s Ridge at St. Francis: Building a football program isn’t easy. You have to take your lumps and hope to learn from them. King’s Ridge, pretty new to football itself, gave the Knights one heck of a lump last year in a 45-0 decision. Lesson learned, but it’s still a work in progress. King’s Ridge 31, St. Francis 12.
