Alpharetta Raiders Pick Up Win Against South Gwinnett Comets

The high school baseball teams are at the start of the season.

The Alpharetta High School Raiders baseball team won their first game of the year with a victory over the South Gwinnett Comets, 9-3.

With some timely hits and costly Comet errors, the the Raiders were ahead the entire game.

Tyler Agard started the scoring with a first inning single and scored as a result of some sloppy fielding (two errors) by the Comets. The Raiders then scored again in the second after a leadoff single by right fielder Austin Holtzer and two costly errors by the Comets.

The Comets scored a lone run in the bottom of the third inning as a result from a walk to centerfielder Arian Martinez, a wild pitch by Raiders starting pitcher McCauley Bryant and an RBI single by shortstop Montrell Marshall.

The Raiders broke the game open with three straight singles by catcher Derek Long, Holtzer and a two RBI single by first baseman David Leith. The Raiders pushed across another run in the top half of the sixth inning as a result of a walk to third baseman Joshua Dobbs, another single by Long and a sacrafice fly by Holtzer.

The Raiders blew the game wide open with a four-run seventh inning. Tyler Agard started the rally off with his second single of the night. After a throwing error allowed Agard to advance to second, Dobbs walked again with Agard scoring on a one-out single by Long. The rally continued with a third single for an RBI for Holtzer with courtesy runner Chris Lung scoring on the play. Holtzer scored the final run on Leith's third RBI and some timely running of the bases.

The South Gwinnett Comets were able to score two runs in the bottom of the seventh from three hit batman and a walk, followed by an RBI by right fielder Jordan Ramey. A later sacrifice fly by third baseman Michael Barton finished the scoring by the Comets.
