Alpharetta Native Wants Hometown Residents to Design His Uniform

Tyler Ruthven, who starts as a defender for the Atlanta Silverbacks, played soccer for Milton High.

Alpharetta native Tyler Ruthven wants one of his hometown's residents to design the uniform he will wear while playing defense for the Atlanta Silverbacks men's professional soccer team.

"Since playing soccer for Concorde Fire Elite as a kid, then playing for in Alpharetta, I have always dreamed of playing professionally in front of the hometown fans, just as my father, Dick, did as a pitcher for the Braves in the 1970s," Ruthven said in a letter to fans.

He also played for Roswell High before transferring to Milton.

"As a player for the Silverbacks, I have been given the opportunity to play in my own backyard, and it’s been incredible," he said.

The fan support is great and the front office wants them even more involved, so the Silverbacks started a fan contest to design their uniforms.

Ruthven invited Alpharetta fans to design the uniform that he'll be wearing at each game next season.

The winner will receive prizes that include a four-day, three-night trip to Bogota, Colombia, 2012 Silverbacks season tickets and four sets of the winning uniforms.

To enter the contest, just go to the Silverbacks’ Facebook page (facebook.com/atlantasilverbacks) and download the uniform template. Or visit the team's Web site.

"Design the look you’d like me to wear next season, and email it to contest@atlantasilverbacks.com," Ruthven said.

Entries are being posted on the Facebook page, and the one that gets the most “likes” wins, so local residents can enlist their friends to help them after creating a design. The voting period ends Sept. 2.

"Good luck in the contest, and thank you for the great support all season. We have three home games left – Aug. 27, Sept. 3 and Sept. 24 – and I hope to see you out there at Atlanta Silverbacks Park," Ruthven said.
