Alpharetta Golfer Qualifies for U.S. Open

Tim Weinhart, a teaching professional at The Standard Club in Johns Creek, was one of three golfers to make the cut in the qualifier at The River Club in Suwanee.

Alpharetta resident Tim Weinhart was one of three golfers who qualified for the U.S. Open in a sectional qualifier on Monday, June 4 at in Suwanee, the USGA reported.

Weinhart teaches at in Johns Creek.

The USGA's online leaderboard showed Weinhart had eight birdies, 25 pars and three bogeys in two rounds of play, shooting 69 and 68 on the par-71, 7,089-yard course. He placed third in the qualifier with a 137.

Weinhart will get his first shot at a U.S. Open title in the tournament, which runs from June 14-17 at The Olympic Club in San Franciso. Practice rounds begin on Monday, June 11.

Another Alpharetta resident, amateur Justin Cho, was tied for eighth, falling short of qualifying at a one-over-par 143 in two rounds of play. His three birdies on the morning round were not enough to catch the leaders. A bogey on the par-5 4th, and a double bogey on the par-4 8th kept him six strokes behind Weinhart.

Three qualifiers and two alternates were designated in the qualifier.
