Alpharetta Defeats Roswell on the Diamond

Raiders beat Hornets in region baseball match up 13-7

The Roswell Hornets baseball team visited the Alpharetta Raiders on Tuesday for a Region 6AAAAA game.  But due to weather related field conditions at Alpharetta High School, the game was played at Johns Creek High School, where the Raiders somehow still managed to hold onto their homefield advantage.

The Hornets jumped out to 3-0 lead in the first inning on a run scoring double by left fielder Kurt Kaiser and another RBI on a single by catcher Drew Davis.  Roswell scored again in the top of the third inning when center fielder Chad Woodhead doubled, driving in a run.

Alpharetta's bats came alive in their half of the third inning as well.  Raider pitcher Dimitri Kourtis, first baseman Eric Nyquist, and left fielder Even Trout all hit safely driving in runs during the inning.  When the dust settled on the third inning, Alpharetta was in the lead 6-4.

Alpharetta scored five more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.   In the fifth inning, Raider pitcher Dimitri Kourtis' two-run homer over the left field fence effectively put the game out of reach.  Roswell managed to answer with three runs in their half of the sixth inning, but were unable to add any additional runs in the seventh, giving Alpharetta the 13-7 win.

The loss drops Roswell to 10-11 on the season and 4-5 in the region.  Alpharetta is 11-11 overall and 5-4 in the region.
