Alpharetta, Cambridge, Milton Compete in Fencing Tournament

The GA High School Fencing League Tournament will be held at Pope High with. approximately 240 fencers competing.

Fencers from Alpharetta, Cambridge and Milton high schools will compete in the largest high school fencing tournament ever held in Georgia on Nov. 2, according to a news release from the Pope Fencing Club.

Pope High School in Marietta will host the GA High School Fencing League (GHSFL) Tournament. Approximately 240 fencers will compete in a men's épée and a women's épée event. Fencing is slated to begin at 8:40 a.m.; semi-finals and finals are expected to run between 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Admission is free.

This is the ninth full season for GHSFL, which is the second largest high school fencing league in the nation. Current members of the League are:

  • Lassiter and Pope in Cobb;
  • Dunwoody in Dekalb;
  • Lambert and South Forsyth in Forsyth;
  • Alpharetta, Cambridge, Centennial, Chattahoochee, Johns Creek, Milton, Northview and Roswell in Fulton;
  • Duluth in Gwinnett and;
  • Three private schools: Fellowship Christian School, Oak Mountain Academy and Pinecrest Academy.

This will be the fourth of seven tournaments in the regular season, which runs from September 2013 through February 2014. Northview High School will host the GHSFL Individual Championship on Feb. 22, 2014. The Team Championship will be held on March 1, 2014 at Pope High School.
