Alpharetta, Colquitt County Split Games in Baseball Playoff Series

Raiders play Packers in deciding game three on Wednesday

The Alpharetta Raiders split a doubleheader with the Colquitt County Packers in their GHSA AAAAA quarterfinal best-of-three playoff series on Tuesday, forcing a deciding game three today at Alpharetta High School.

Colquitt County jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning against Alpharetta in game one on a two-run homer by Packer starting pitcher Cole Pitts and a two RBI double by left fielder Austin Dykes in the third inning.

Alpharetta got on the scoreboard in the third inning with left fielder Even Trout's solo home run. The Raiders then broke game one open in the fifth inning. First baseman Cody Carpenter doubled, driving in one run, pinch runner Grady Castriota scored on a fielder's choice, and third baseman Dmitri Kourtis smacked a three-run homer to deep center field.Β

The Raiders came out of the fifth inning with a 6-4 lead and won game one of the doubleheader by holding Colquitt County scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings.

In the first game, Eric Nyquist pitched a complete game for Alpharetta, picking up the victory while only giving up three hits. With the win, Nyquist broke the Alpharetta High School record for most wins by a pitcher.

In game two, Colquitt County and Alpharetta both scored in the first inning. The Packers scored on an RBI single by left fielder Austin Dykes and the Raiders on a solo home run by shortstop Harrison Hunter.

Colquitt County added a run in the third.Β  Alpharetta pulled even at 2-2 in the fourth inning. Neither team scored in the fifth inning.

Alpharetta scored one run in the top of the sixth inning to take a one-run lead, but it was short lived as the Colquitt County bats came alive in the bottom of the sixth. The Packers scored six runs on four hits in their half of the inning to take a 8-3 lead into the final inning.

When the Raiders could not add any runs, Colquitt County took the victory forcing a deciding game three to be played on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. at Alpharetta High School.Β
