Bringing the Arts to Preschoolers

Shannon Mayer has developed a new friend to bring the arts to Preschoolers

Shannon Mayer, owner and director of the Off Broadway Dance and Children's Theatre in Alpharetta, Georgia has made it her mission to bring a love for the arts to pre-schoolers everywhere.

As a mother of two young children herself, she saw a need for an interactive app that taught young children the basics of ballet, tap and creative movement and drama for the iPad or iPhone in a fun way with a relatable character that also taught them good values at the same time. Using her own daughter as her inspiration, Rosie Posie was born.

The goal of the Rosie Posie character is to instill a love of the arts in children at an early age, while simultaneously educating children. Mayer launched a Kickstarter campaign in order to fund her goal of bringing Rosie Posie to life with the creation of a board book. In addition to the traditional children’s board book, Mayer hopes to create an E-book, an interactive iPad app, and an audiobook, all featuring the first Rosie Posie story, “Rosie Posie and the Magic Slippers.”

She already has material for future stories.

The first will focus on 12 basic ballet steps from a preschool curriculum.

“I feel that I have a unique perspective into the world of what children enjoy, and what helps children learn, because of my own experiences with my studio and children,” said Mayer. “The Rosie Posie character is someone that any child can love, and through the development of this project, children everywhere will have the opportunity to grow alongside this character.”

According to Mayer, the hope is that by bringing her beloved character to the world in a range of formats, she’ll be able to reach more children with the messages of the character. Regardless of where the child is located in the world, or even if the child is able to read, Mayer hopes to provide a Rosie Posie product that will meet the individual needs of the child.

“It’s my goal to bring Rosie Posie to life,” said Mayer. “I want children to be able to incorporate her into their lives in a variety of ways, and feel as if she’s someone that is a trusted friend, which is why I want to bring her story to the audience in innovative, diverse ways.”

As a fellow studio owner, I know you see the need to enrich our preschoolers lives in whatever way possible.

Mayer has set a $5,000 goal for her Kickstarter campaign, in order to fund the costs associated with publishing a book, creating an audio book and releasing an interactive iPad app. She needs the word to spread to get her ipad going so this can be something all studio owners can benefit from.
