University Awards One UGA Scholarships to Alpharetta Students

Incoming freshmen who are outstanding academically are eligible for the scholarship.

Two Alpharetta residents will be among a group of University of Georgia incoming freshmen who have been awarded the One UGA Scholarship for the 2011-2012 academic year.

  • Jeanette Kessler, Milton High School, daughter of William and Tracy Kessler.
  • Chiara Tondi Resta, North Springs High School, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tondi Resta.

The One UGA Scholarship is provided to academically outstanding incoming students who will contribute to the diversity of the freshmen class, according to the UGA news release. Preference is given to those who are first in their families to attend college.

The award provides $1,500 per year in addition to the HOPE Scholarship to Georgia high school graduates. Out-of-state recipients can use a Regents Waiver that covers the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition.
The scholarship can be renewed for an additional three years of undergraduate study if the recipients maintain certain academic standards.
