Town Hall: Are You For or Against School Choice?

A documentary screening of "Making the Grade" will provide a platform for discourse during the North Fulton Education Town Hall meeting Tuesday, May 1, from 7 p.m.-9 p.m.

The Americans for Prosperity Foundation, expect a lively discussion about school choice and the Georgia General Assembly action related to charter schools at tomorrow's town hall meeting in Roswell.

Difficulties Fulton Science Academy Middle School has had getting a charter renewal brought the issue to the forefront in the Alpharetta area.

The event will include a screening of the documentary film, “Making The Grade In GA: Educational Freedom & Justice for All”. Sen. John Albers, R-Roswell, a charter school supporter, Rep. Jan Jones, R-Milton, author of the HR 1162 Charter School Constitutional Amendment that passed the legislature this year, GA Charter School Association President Tony Roberts, a foremost expert on Georgia charter schools, and others will be on-hand to discuss the issues.

“This forum is a great opportunity for people to learn about the way forward for Georgia education. Parents should be able to direct education money for their child to the school of their choosing,” states AFPF-GA State Director Virginia Galloway.

The event - co-hosted by the North Fulton chapter of Americans For Prosperity Foundation GA and North Fulton and Friends Tea Party - will provide a summary of where Georgia currently stands in education.

The film and discussion will reveal the social and economic impact to students of Georgia’s failing educational system. It will focus on the many school choice options available in Georgia and the arguments for and against each.

The event takes place tomorrow, Tuesday, May 1 from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. at the , 1075 Holcomb Bridge Road in Roswell. For more information call Virginia Galloway at 770-315-4304.

Some things run more efficiently as a monopoly, but I don't think education is one of those things. A parent who cares enough to try to get their child the best possible education shouldn't be deprived of the options that would make that possible. Michelle Rhee's "Students First" organisation has a great deal of information available online for anyone interested in researching this topic before the meeting tonight.
