Sacagawea Visits Alpharetta Elementary

first-graders were invited to the media center to spend time learning about Sacagawea, the Shoshone girl who helped guide the Lewis and Clark Expedition out west.

Gail Heller dressed up as Sacagawea and was assisted by three drummers who welcomed the classes as they entered β€” Humberto Navarrete, Dante Leonard and Liam Walsh.

Stories, facts, music, demonstrations and artifacts Β were presented in multi-media presentation.

Students were called up to draw Native American picture language, hoop dance and play a game. They even learned some popular Native American names for pet dogs.

Sacagawea is an integral part of the first grade social studies unit on Thomas Jefferson and Lewis and Clark.
