Rotarians, Milton High Name Anna Mahr Student of the Quarter

The Rotary Club of Milton-Windward honors students and teachers at several schools for their accomplishments.

Anna Mahr was named the Milton High School Student of the Quarter by the school and the Rotary Club of Milton-Windard for her work with Kindness Week at the school.

Each day had a designation, such as "Hey Day" on Monday, during which students simply were encouraged to greet each other. The morning greeters started the day off so that from the moment the students entered the school they got a morale boost.

On National Mix It Up Day, students were encouraged not to sit with the same group of people they usually joined for lunch, but to sit with other students. Prizes were given to students who embraced the day, including the prized Chick-fil-A coupons.

Wednesday was Cans and Cokes Day, with another student organization collecting those for local food pantries.

On Thursday, it was Treat and Tweet Day, in honor of Halloween. Students were encouraged to treat someone else and then Tweet about it, and to Retweet other students' good deeds.

Mahr said on Treat and Tweet Day, one girl taped money on vending machines at the school with a note saying to "treat yourself to something nice today." Another student bought the people behind her in line at Starbucks their coffee. And a couple of girls brought the school crossing guard coffee and donuts in the morning because it was very cold.

Friday was Appreciation Day, and the National English Honor Society gave a letter to each student, asking him or her to encourage others.

"This week was just really awesome. It was a really cool way to get kids involved," Mahr told the Rotarians. "It was really cool they thought it could be rewarding and fun to promote kindness and school spirit in one week."
