Roswell HS Principal Spurka Named Principal of Bethany Bend High

Redistricting meetings for the opening of Bethany Bend High start next week in Alpharetta.

Dr. Edward Spurka has been named principal of Bethany Bend High School, according to this message posted today on Roswell High School's Web site. Spurka has led RHS for 10 years.

Bethany Bend is under construction and is scheduled to open in 2012.

Spurka's replacement will be Jerome Huff, principal at Elkins Pointe Middle School. Huff announced his selection to take over at Roswell High via an e-mail sent to parents and students.

"Since Roswell High School first opened its doors 62 years ago, only seven people have been fortunate enough to be its principal," Spurka said in his online message. "For the last 10 years, I have felt the community pride and spirit for Roswell High School from the hallways to the Roswell Rotary, to our surrounding businesses and parks. Roswell High School has been so special to me."

Huff took over as principal this school year after longtime EPMS principal Vivian Bankston retired. He previously served as principal of Roswell North Middle School.

"It is with mixed emotions that I write to tell you that I will not be the principal of Elkins Pointe Middle School after this current school year," Huff wrote in his e-mail message. "I have been appointed the next principal of Roswell High School effective July 1, 2011...Dr. Will Rumbaugh, our area superintendent, is working with us right now to make sure a fair selection process [for Huff's replacement] is in place."

Plans for parents and students to meet Huff have already been announced, according to Spurka's announcement. On Tuesday, Feb. 22, Huff will hold an informal meeting with parents and students from 7:45 a.m.-9 a.m.

Bethany Bend High School will be located in Milton, and will likely draw students from Roswell High, Milton High and Alpharetta High schools. Redistricting meetings for North Fulton residents will begin next week, according to the Fulton County Schools Web site. The public is encouraged to attend.

"My goal is to build a high school at Bethany Bend that resembles the culture here, a place where the students and parents love their high school as much as  you do," said Spurka. His message ended with "Once a Hornet, always a Hornet."
