Milton High Sports Program 12th in the Nation

The Eagles took the top spot in Georgia and were only behind 11 other schools in the inaugural MaxPreps Cup standings.

has the twelth best prep sports program in the country, and best in Georgia, according to MaxPreps Sports.

The top school in the nation is American Heritage in Plantation, Fla.

Milton High Principal Clifford Jones was glad to spread news of the designation today.

"Milton High School community strives for excellence in academics, athletics, and the arts. Our coaches are committed to building programs where students can grow in skill and character. Fulton County Schools support parents and communities in their efforts to create first class opportunities for students," Jones said.

The school's athletic director, Gary Sylvestri, emailed the coaches, teachers and staff at the school to thank them for their work that helped earn this distinction.

"I want to thank and congratulate all of you who coached, taught and supported our student/athletes This is an amazing accomplishment and recognition for our school," his email read.

Only the following sports were counted toward the MaxPreps Cup: football, boys/girls volleyball, boys/girls basketball, boys/girls swimming, boys/girls soccer, boys/girls tennis, boys/girls golf, boys/girls cross country, boys/girls track, wrestling, softball, boys/girls lacrosse. The sport must be sanctioned to be counted. Club sports were not included.

It looks like the boys basketball team is going to get a boost from four transfer students, all in the Class of 2014, according to MaxPreps:

  • Isaiah Manderson, from Westside in Augusta;
  • Idris Taqqee, from Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, Mass.;
  • Johnnie Vassar, from La Lumiere in LaPorte, Ind.;
  • DaQuain Watts, from North Springs in Sandy Springs.
