Milton High Band Rocks at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre

Foster the People needed some brass players to help perform a song, putting the Fulton County Schools students before 10,000 fans.

When the hit group, Foster The People came to town to play at the in Alpharetta, they were in search of a group of talented brass players to help them perform one of their songs, so they contacted ’s Marching Band.

“We were really surprised when we got the call,” said Chris Shumick, Milton High School’s director of Bands. “But with only a few days to learn their parts, the kids got down to business and were ready by show time. It was all very exciting.”

Foster The People, an indie pop band out of Los Angeles, has had several top hits including the song, “Pumped Up Kicks.” Their latest hit, “Houdini”, was the song they asked the Milton High School musicians to perform with them.
After a mid-day sound check at the Verizon Amphitheatre, the 20 brass players as well as some members of the Chattahoochee Marching Band went backstage to their dressing room and to their surprise, got to meet Foster The People’s lead singer, Mark Foster, who wished everyone good luck.

When show time came around, three of the Milton musicians went on stage to play along side Foster The People, as the rest of the band marched into the amphitheater. After playing in front of the crowd of more than 10,000 fans, to their delight, they received a thunderous, standing ovation.

After the show, the members of Foster The People came back stage and congratulated the high school musicians on a job well done while posing for pictures and signing autographs.

“It certainly was something these kids will never forget”, said Brandon
Kunka, one of Milton Band’s directors who chaperoned the event.

Added one Milton band member, “I hope some other famous bands ask us to play with them because that was truly awesome!”
