Milton Eagles Boys Tennis Team Wraps Up Region Title

The high school varsity players want to beat Northview after Spring Break to stay undefeated in the region.

The boys tennis team will take the region title whether they beat Northview on April 10 or not, but the Eagles want to win that match too, their coach says.

The Eagles beat North Forsyth on Thursday, March 29, to assure they win the region title.

"We have one more match against Northview that we're hoping to win and end the season undefeated in the region. But since we beat , who is in second place, we would win the region even with a loss against Northview," said Coach Ann Marie Willis.

She said the team has six seniors who have provided tremendous leadership and enthusiasm to the team.

"Our players put the team first and even though we've had some close matches, they are fighters and have been able to pull off some wins in the tough matches," Willis said.

Bruce Li is a junior playing #1 singles and will return next year.  She said the Eagles' starting seniors are:

  • Patrick Hackling at 2 singles,
  • Chris O'Donnell and Nick Palaio have been playing 3 singles, and
  • Kegan Baird has been very successful at the one doubles with freshman Taylor Copp.

Mark Lane, another senior, has played some 2 doubles.

"We have some strong juniors who will lead in continuing Milton's success next year," said Willis, looking to the future in answering emailed questions.

After playing Northview High on April 10, Milton will take part in the Buckhead Rotary tournament on April 13-14 before the state tournament begins toward the end of April.
