King's Ridge Christian Tiger Scouts Hear Stories of Youth at Arbor Terrace

The Scouts shared Valentine's wishes, handmade cards, cookies and treats with residents of the assisted living facility.

Tiger Scout Den 5 Pack 100 from School recently shared special Valentine’s Day wishes with the residents of Arbor Terrace in Crabapple. The Scouts distributed handmade Valentine’s Day cards, cookies and treats, and the residents shared stories about family and how times have changed over the years.

Buck Story, an Arbor Terrace resident, told the Scouts about a time when he rode a tricycle to school two and half miles to pick up his sister’s lunch box. At that time, he counted the revolutions of the front tire and, best he can recollect, it was 2,000 turns.

Resident Jim Gray talked about the closest thing to video games being the flight simulators that he built for the airline industry in the 1940s. He also talked about when he was 6 or 7, he and his friends used to chase a tire around with sticks trying to keep it rolling. Another resident, AP Black, was the fire chief for the City of Atlanta. He never wanted to be a firefighter growing up, but took the job at the age of 25 because it was good money.

“It was a wonderful experience for both the scouts and residents,” said parent Laura Dameron, who scheduled the activity. “For the Scouts, it’s an opportunity to learn the value of family and pay respect to their elders, while sharing in friendship and the joy of giving.”
