Hopewell Middle Students Take Third in Math Competition

The four-member team qualified for the state MathCounts Competition.

The Hopewell Middle School MathCounts team earned third place in the 29th annual Metro Atlanta Chapter MathCounts Competition sponsored by the Georgia Society of Professional Engineers on Saturday, Feb. 11, at Georgia Tech.

The four team members were, Parth Kumar, Nico Leis, Liam Nugent and Amy Li. They placed in the top 25th percentile of all students who competed.

The team was coached by Lorie Moore–a former Hopewell Middle teacher who is now at The University of West Georgia–and Mark Poole.

The Hopewell team competed against all the private, charter and public Atlanta City schools and the county schools of Fulton, Gwinnett and Dekalb. More than 450 mathletes and over 60 schools attended the competition.

By placing third out of all the schools, The Hopewell Middle School Math Counts Team  has moved on to the State MathCounts Competition.
