Fulton Science Academy Student Wins MVP at Hockey Tournament

The only girl in the 36-team international competition beats out all the boys.

 

seventh grader Emily Barber won the MVP award in an international tournament against players in 36 teams.

Barber traveled with her ice hockey team to Toronto, Canada over the holiday break to compete in an international hockey tournament in which she was the only female in the entire field of 36 teams.  The Atlanta Knights were also the only team from the United States to compete in the tournament and only missed the round robin finals of the tournament by only one goal.

She played the goaltending position and played every minute of the tournament for her team. While the average number of shots for a game is under 30, Emily averaged more than 45 saves per game for a total of almost 200 saves in 3 days to win the tournament Most Valuable Player Award.

FSA Principal Kenan Sener said, “We could not be more proud of Emily for this outstanding accomplishment! She does very well at FSA and now has shown her achievements on the international level as well.”
