Creek View Elementary Students Donate for Dogs

Coins for Canines project raises thousands of dollars for charity

Creek View Elementary has gone to the dogs, raising money for Canine Assistants in Coins for Canines.

Creek View is home to Paisley, a full-time therapy dog. In celebration of Paisley's first full year at school, the children, families and staff wanted to give back in a big way, according to Fran Gerlich of Creek View.

Throughout the week of Jan. 31, children brought coins to school each morning, which they placed in jars divided up by grade level. Children were also treated to daily visits from some of the Canine Assistants puppies in training.

Students at Creek View raised $3,001, Gerlich reported in a news release. Every penny donated went straight to Canine Assistance. The fifth graders were the top contributing grade level, raising $693, followed by the third graders who were only $15 behind, raising $678. Second grade was a close third place with $644.

The fifth graders will get to name a future puppy for Canine Assistants and will also get a β€œpuppy party.”

Gerlich said the school owed a huge thank you to Colleen Waddle, former Creek View secretary and Canine Assistants volunteer, who helped coordinate this project.
