City Honors Alpharetta Raiders Cheerleaders

The high school squad won its first state title in competition cheerleading this school year.

It's been a few months coming, but the Alpharetta City Council honored the state champion competition cheerleading squad from Alpharetta High School on May 16.

The team won the 5A State Championship from the Georgia High School Association–a first for the school’s team. AHS also won the Grand Champion Trophy, which is for the highest score among all regions. Several of the squad members came to City Hall Monday night with their coach, Katie Gumm, to receive the proclamation honoring them. The squad won its first regional title the previous year, and a second regional title this year before winning the state championship.

Squad members include: Alex Bowers, Allie Cheek, Tasya Cooley, Abby DiVagno, Austin Edquist, Caroline Glessner, Paula Gonzalez, Kayla Janas, Katie Kurnett, Missy McGee, Nicole Moore, Nicole Negri, Betsy Paolella, Sandi Schodowski, Kaleigh Snyder, Alex Stephens, Rebecca Stewart, Emma Stewart and Darsi Williams. Jamie Parish of the Georgia All-Stars Cheer program was their choreographer.
