Cambridge High Students Sign Letters of Intent

The seniors at the new high school plan to join the crew/rowing or equestrian teams at their respective colleges.

Cambridge High School is celebrating yet another impressive round of "firsts" as three outstanding seniors who received their National Letter of Intent this week.

The following students intend to sign:

  • Maggie Nugent – University of Alabama  Crew/Rowing
  • Cassi Lobaugh – Nova Southeastern University Crew/Rowing
  • Tori Bentley – Kansas State University Equestrian

These signings showcase the hard work and dedication of nontraditional GHSA athletes who put in an incredible amount of time to achieve excellence and are rewarded at the collegiate level. Congratulations to these amazing CHS seniors.

Maggie Nugent, a senior at Cambridge High School, has signed with the University of Alabama for women's rowing. Nugent will join the Division I rowing team under Head Coach Larry Davis and Assistant Coaches Derek Tuten and Megan Patrick. Nugent has rowed competitively with the nationally ranked Atlanta Junior Rowing Association for four years under the guidance of Coach Skye Elliot and Assistant Coach Julie McQueen. She has medaled in numerous local and regional regattas with her team mates. Nugent has qualified and participated in Youth Nationals and Club Nationals as well as U.S. Rowing's Junior National Development program. She is a three-time competitor in the Head of the Charles, the world's largest regatta.

Cassi Lobaugh has been rowing for Atlanta Junior Rowing Association since her sophomore year in high school.  During the spring of 2012, her board was undefeated.  Her team placed second in the southeast regionals which qualified them for the national championship where they placed 13th in the country.  Cassi's efforts earned her a spot as one of the select few to represent AJRA at the Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston, MA in 2011 and 2012.  In the fall of 2013, Cassi will be attending Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, FL on a rowing scholarship.

Another senior at Cambridge High School to receive this high honor is Tori Bentley who has been issued a National Letter of Intent to ride on the hunt seat Equestrian Team at Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas.  Kansas State is a member of the Big 12 Conference and is currently ranked 5th in the nation among NCAA Equestrian programs. Tori has been a lifelong equestrian and has been trained by Sunny Stevens out of Stevehaven Stables. Recently, she qualified and participated in the USHJA Emerging Athletes Program, the USEF Pessoa Hunt Seat Medal Finals in Harrisburg, PA and the USET Talent Search Finals in Gladstone, NJ, where she earned a bronze medal of distinction.  Tori has been awarded both athletic and academic accommodations from Kansas State University where she will attend in the fall of 2013.
