Cambridge High Principal Picks a Familiar Face as Band Director

may be losing its band director, but the city of Milton won't–Ryan Borger will join Cambridge High School's staff as its first band director.

Principal Ed Spurka picked Borger to be his school's first band director, a position he's held at Milton High since May 2007.

"I am looking forward to establishing new and exciting traditions while upholding the same standard of excellence my programs have demonstrated throughout the years, " Borger said.

Borger has helped lead the Milton Wind Ensemble to superior ratings as it has been recognized as an "Honor Band of Georgia" by Columbus State University, has been featured at the University of Georgia's 2011 January Festival of Bands, and has been showcased at the University of Alabama Honor Band Festival.

Spurka said Borger has been successful in building Milton's band program.  "Mr. Borger has made his band program one of the most respected in the southeast.  His passion and energy will be a great asset to the students and music program, and I couldn't be more excited to have him at Cambridge High School."

Borger will also join Cambridge as the leader of the performing and fine arts' programs, Spurka said.

Borger began his professional teaching career in 1997 as assistant band director at Fairmont High School in Kettering, Ohio.  He served as the brass instructor for the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps at Fairmont for two years.  fter serving six years there, Borger was named band director at Miamisburg High School in Ohio, where he worked for six years before moving to Georgia. 

Borger was recently inducted in the Georgia Chapter of the Phi Beta Mu, an Honorary Band Directors' Fraternity.  He holds a Bachelors Degree in Music Education from Bowling Green State University in Ohio.

He resides in Alpharetta with his wife, Melissa, who is a fellow music educator and pianist.
