Alpharetta Students Take Charge Backstage at Hairspray Production

The Brenau Unversity students work as a stage manager and a wardrobe head.

A pair of Alpharetta residents have backstage roles with the production of Hairspray that opens the Gainesville Theatre Alliance's 2011-12 season on Tuesday, Nov. 8 .

Deirdre Kunze from Alpharetta, is the assistant stage manager for this production. Kunze, whose major is theater, is a junior at Brenau.

Alexandra Matthews from Alpharetta, is the wardrobe head for this production. Matthews, whose major is theater theater design and technology, is a senior at Brenau.

The local students are working on the production of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Hairspray by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan with music by Marc Shaiman and Scott Scott Wittman.

Brenau collaborates with Gainesville State College in the Gainesville Theatre Alliance, which for three decades has brought high-level drama and musical performances involving students, community theater amateurs and professionals to stages at the two institutions.

Performances are:

7:30 p.m. Nov. 8-12 and Nov. 15-19;

2:30 p.m., Nov. 13 and 19.

Tickets: $20-24 for adults, $18-22 for seniors and $14-16 for students.

Patrons can select their own seats on the website or purchase tickets through the GTA Box Office from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. weekdays at 678-717-3624.
