Alpharetta's Thawer Picked as BOA Student Leader

The Woodward Academy graduate will attend the University of Georgia.

An Alpharetta resident has been selected as a Bank of America Student Leaders.
Fahim Thawer, who is an incoming freshman at the University of Georgia, is one of four Student Leaders selected from the metro area.

The graduate of Woodward Academy just returned from a weeklong leadership summit in Washington, and has been interning throughout the summer at Teach for America Atlanta.
He's been busy with an array of volunteer activities:

  • Northside Hospital, Atlanta - In the Child Development Center, Camp Hope Retreat Project, Cardiology. Coordinator of new volunteers interviewing.
  • Model Atlanta Regional Commission - Selected by Atlanta Regional Commission to work with 50 high school students from 10 counties to debate and do hands-on activities to address regional issues and challenges and to learn more about past, present and future issues from ARC experts while demonstrating leadership skills.
  • Habitat for Humanity - volunteer, leadership committee.
  • EXCITE! Volunteer - teacher and information coordinator.

During the Student Leadership Summit in DC, Student Leaders participated in a service learning project and through a series of interactive workshops, including Capitol Hill briefings, sessions on financial education and leadership development skills, the summit broadens students’ understanding of how service creates positive change and how corporate, nonprofit and government collaboration is instrumental in community revitalization.
