Alpharetta Music Major Excels at State Piano Auditions

Meaghan Stokes placed as a first honorable mention.

Meaghan Stokes, a senior music major from Alpharetta, recently competed at the GMEA State Piano Auditions. Stokes placed in the competition as a First Honorable Mention.

Reinhardt students took five of the top six awards and ranked first in each category except Recital Winner. All seven Reinhardt students who performed placed.

A total of 20 students competed, representing the following universities in addition to Reinhardt: Augusta State University, Kennesaw State University, State University of West Georgia, University of Georgia, and Valdosta State University.

"I am thrilled, as you can imagine," said Susan Naylor, associate professor of music. "God has blessed these students and He has blessed me by giving me the opportunity and guidance needed to work with such talented and hard-working young people. Thank you all for your support and encouragement as these students continue to strive for excellence."

Those students going on to the State Conference will compete in Savannah, Ga., January 23-26. This annual conference is attended by public and private music educators and students from all over the state.
