Alpharetta, Milton, Roswell Only High Schools Affected by Redistricting

After three rounds of maps and hearings, the final redistricting map being submitted doesn't match any of the alternatives shown to residents in Alpharetta, Milton and the rest of North Fulton. That's just as Fulton County School System staff promised.

At first glance, it appears that attendance zones will only change for Roswell, Milton and Alpharetta high schools, with no changes east of GA 400. Centennial, Chattahoochee, Johns Creek and Northview high schools may not have any changes to attendance zones, if the school board adopts this recommendation.

And the split in attendance zone boundaries is close to what many parents wanted, more along the lines of a north-south split to match the major roads in the area.

The final recommendation to the Fulton County Board of Education will be presented at its work session on Tuesday, May 10. Presentations typically begin at 2 p.m., though the meeting starts at 12:30 p.m. with an executive session and continues through to 6:30 p.m. when public comment may be heard. The meeting can be viewed online.

No vote will be taken at this meeting, though the board members could direct staff to make even more changes.

The school board's first chance to take action on the redistricting proposal will be on May 19 at its regular meeting.

The public process started Feb. 23 with a public meeting at , with parents and other local residents coming back in greater numbers on March 16 and April 23 as more details and adjustments to the attendance zone proposals were made.
