Alpharetta Keeps Rolling in its State Basketball Playoff Debut

The Alpharetta Raiders continue to win in their first trip to the state boys basketball playoffs, beating Peachtree Ridge Lions 80-69 on Wednesday night, Feb. 29.

Ty Toney led all scorers with 36 points, but the Lions gave him a helping hand reaching that total, sending him to the line 21 times. Almost all of those came in the final minutes–16 in the fourth period with 12 sinking into the basket–as Peachtree Ridge fought for a way to gain ball control. Toney was 17 for 21 at the free throw line. He added eight two pointers and a single three to reach 36 points.

Other Raiders in double figures were Carlos Burse with 25 and Bjorn Walker with 10.

The Raiders won it at the free throw line, sinking 32 of their 45 attempts. They made 15 of their 2-point attempts and 6 of their 3s, for 48 points. The Lions put in 23 2-pointers and 5 treys, or 61 points.

Alpharetta plays Berkmar on Saturday at the University of West Georgia

After scoring 18 in the first period and 24 in the second, the Raiders slipped a bit in scoring 15 in the third. But they put up 23 points in the fourth.

Jordan Capps led Peachtree Ridge with 26 points, one of the four Lions to score in double figures in their state playoff basketball game against Alpharetta Wednesday night.

The home court advantage wasn't enough, and the Lions ended their playoff hopes in the second round.
