Alpharetta Junior Raider Wrestlers Win Medals

Colson Wamsley pins his four opponents with his signature move, the head and arm throw.

Four of the eight Junior Raider wrestlers who competed at Lovett High School in Atlanta on Jan. 29 medaled.

The star of the tournament was Colson Wamsley (8-U/70).  Colson pinned all four of his opponents with his signature move, the head and arm throw. According to Coach Guy Fragle, "The sugar rush from his dad's birthday cake appeared to provide Colson extra energy and strength."

Despite all the nice birthday gifts Tom Wamsley received from friends and family, his favorite gift was the one Colson provided- the big gold medal Colson earned on the mat.

Danny Gladwell (10-U/112) also earned a gold medal. For the first time this season at a Beginner tournament Danny did not earn any pins. Yet, he did earn a highly dominant technical fall. His Lovett gold medal is Danny's fifth gold medal of the season, which leads the Junior Raider team. Danny's five gold medals include two Open tournaments as well as three Beginner tournaments.

Brad Eden (12-U/85) earned a silver medal under tiebreaker criteria. Two very close decisions–6-4 and 5-4–kept Brad from earning gold.

Grant Thomson (10-U/87) earned a brzone medal.  In a tough weight class, Grant achieved two wins by pin. Unfortunately, in his second place match Grant lost a tough 7-6 decision. His coaches say Grant has shown greater tenacity and mat awareness during the second half of the season.  In the opinion of the coaches, Grant is "ready to progress to the Open mats."

Jacob Fragle (10-U/75) achieved one victory and a fourth place finish. Jacob works hard in practice and has shown significant improvement. The Junior Raider coaches also believe "big things are ahead for Jacob."

Blake Levy (12-U/140) earned one victory and a fourth place finish. Two of Blake's losses were very close decisions, which if they went differently would have earned him a medal.

Olivia Colburn (10-U/60) and Caleb Colburn (12-U/95) also wrestled for the Junior Raiders.
