Fourteen of the wrestlers brought home medals from the Shoot the Hooch Beginners Tournament at Chattahoochee High.

Alpharetta Junior Raider wrestlers competed in a match at Chattahoochee High School on Dec. 16, with 14 of the 17 wrestlers taking home medals.

  • Will Miller (12-U/90), Alec Bessonny (10-U/65), Wes Austin (8-U/50), Will Austin (8-U/55), and Dylan Hannon (8-U/90) each earned silver medals and had one pin.
  • Michael DeSantis (12-U/75), Mark De Santis (12-U/95), Trevor Klabunde (10-U/60), and Jacob Fragle (10-U/87) each earned bronze medals.
  • Chad Bernstein (12-U/120), Joe Sansone (8-U/55), and John Sansone (8-U/65) also competed for the Junior Raiders.

Chuck Boyd, head coach of the Alpharetta Junior Raider Wrestling elementary school program, said he was pleased with the results and looks forward to some of the elementary team moving up to open-level tournaments in January.

"We have seen great progress from all our wrestlers. Jackson, Reagan, and Colson in particular have demonstrated great improvement during their second year of wrestling and the Marks brothers may end up being as famous for wrestling as the currently better known Marx brothers were for comedy," Coach Boyd said. "We hope that our gold medalists inspire the rest of the team to achieve great success in the New Year.  But, most importantly, all the kids are having fun."
