Alpharetta High Lacrosse Players Help Charity With Goals

The Raider men's senior players signed up pledges for each goal scored to benefit Hal's Drive Thru, a non-profit organization that serves hot meals to those in need.

The Raider men’s lacrosse players begin their playoff run last week, carrying with them the title of Region champs.  However, team supporters say the success the players experienced during the course of the season reached much farther than their 16-1-1 record or their favorable playoff seed might indicate.

Prior to the spring season, the senior members of the Raider lacrosse team voted to use a “Goal-a-Thon” as the senior legacy philanthropic project, for the purpose of raising money for Hal’s Drive Thru, according to Lauri Lusby of the Alpharetta High School Foundation board.

Hal’s Drive Thru is a 501(c)3 organization which serves hot meals to those in need in the community.  Run by Hal and Nancye Vernier, Hal’s Drive Thru is more than a feeding program; it is an outreach ministry that uses food to bring people together to show the love of Jesus Christ in a tangible way.

Raider team members solicited pledges for goals scored during all regular season home games. The Verniers were often spotted at Raider Stadium, cheering for the young men who believed in, and shared a passion for their mission.

As the Raiders closed out their regular season on Friday night, they presented a check in the amount of $4,690.40 to Hal’s Drive Thru, reflecting 130 goals scored during regular season games.
